Cage type stainless steel bird guard fitted to the chimney pot to prevent birds from falling in / nesting and also keeps the rain out. Harness and full fall arrest equipment is used on all roof work.
Prevention is better than cure and we would recommend fitting a bird guard to the top of the chimney however the birds can and will fall down the chimney. If you hear a bird in the chimney do not delay! Call us and we will rush out to try and save the wildlife. This can be quite a distressing event for all involved especially the bird! Please do not leave the animal to die slowly in the chimney! The corpse will decompose, you will likely have flies / maggots and a bigger bill!

1. What time will you be arriving for the sweep?
Sweeping a chimney takes from 20 minutes to 1 and a half hours on average and nest removal or unexpected problems can take upwards of 4 hours. For these reasons it is impossible to give specific timed appointments. I will text a couple of days before your appointment to give a rough time slot once I know my route. You can also request a text when I'm on my way. I'm happy to oblige with keys being left with neighbours etc. and will always try to be as helpful as possible. Sweeping in the Spring / Summer can be more manageable as things are generally a bit quieter so it's easier to keep to schedule. Missed appointments are charged at a minimum of £50 per chimney booked in. Cancellations or changes to booked appointments require a minimum of 24 hours notice or will be charged as a missed appointment.
2. Does it make a mess?
Almost certainly no. Everything is sheeted up beforehand and I have a professional industrial vacuum running to contain the soot fall in the fireplace. There are exceptions, I would estimate around 2% there will need to be some clean up in the room only where the chimney has been neglected/poorly maintained or there is a large bird nest but even in these cases there is rarely any mess in the room.
3. Can I have a quote to sweep my chimney?
All chimneys are different so all prices are estimates. There are many factors that will affect the work required including, but not limited to, how well the chimney has been maintained, the height of the building and whether the appliance has been installed to a good standard. A DIY stove installation with no liner in the chimney will cost more than a professionally installed stove with HETAS certificate and a lined chimney. If I charged a fixed price this would suggest I do the same thing at each job. All of the chimneys are swept properly to the highest standards, the end cost won't really be known until the end of the job. Discount is available for multiple chimneys in the same dwelling.
4. Do I need to prepare for the sweeps arrival?
Any ornaments that may be around your fireplace should be removed and I will need approx 1.5 metres in front of the fireplace to give me space to work and to bring the equipment in. I'm in and out of the front door a fair bit during the process so precautions may need to be taken with any pets in the house. A parking space on the drive or outside the house is a massive help wherever possible and any rubbish or ash in the fireplace should be cleared away. The fire should be out for at least 12 hours before the chimney sweep. Please ensure that your mobile phone is on and being monitored incase I have to contact you on the day for any reason.
5. How often should I sweep my chimney?
Chimneys should be swept a minimum of once per year for safety and insurance purposes. An insurance recognised certificate will be issued on successful completion of the sweep.
6. How can I pay?
Payment via cash or card on completion of the job. If you are a business or landlord etc. please contact us to set up an account if this is better for you.
Terms and conditions
Payment is due on completion of work by cash or credit/debit card only. All prices are estimates. Late payment of 7 days or more will incur an £80 administration fee + interest on the entire balance. Balances unpaid after 30 days will be passed to a debt collection agency or proceed to small claims court and will incur further charges. Payment may be asked for up front at the companies discretion. I reserve the right to change my terms and conditions at any time. In the event of a 'customer no show' the charge is £50 per chimney booked in. Cancelled appointments or changes to a booked appointment require a minimum of 24 hours notice or will be charged as a missed appointment Disposal of soot is the customers responsibility. No liability will be accepted if a bird guard or cowl is knocked off during the sweeping process. A correctly fitted guard in good repair would not be dislodged even if I were trying. The minimum call out fee is £50 regardless of whether the work can be carried out for any reason. All deposits are non refundable.
